Genetec Expands Investigative Capabilities with New AutoVu ALPR Analysis Reports Plugin

Jun 23 2025

Global leader in enterprise physical security software, Genetec, has announced the release of its new AutoVu™ ALPR Analysis Reports plugin, designed to streamline and accelerate vehicle-based investigations for law enforcement.

The new plugin enhances forensic capabilities by allowing investigators to analyze vehicle behavior patterns such as driving speed and travel cohorts. By automating time-consuming data sorting and enabling more targeted analysis, the tool aims to help agencies reduce investigative time and improve case outcomes.

“This plugin gives investigators what they need to close cases faster,” said Steve Hins, Product Group Manager, ALPR at Genetec Inc. “With just a few clicks, they can spot patterns and behaviors in vehicle data that would otherwise take hours or days to uncover manually.” (Genetec Press Release 2025)

The AutoVu ALPR Analysis Reports plugin includes two primary features that support a wide range of public safety applications.

Cohort Analysis The first, called Cohort Analysis, enables investigators to identify vehicles that frequently travel with a car of interest. This functionality can reveal patterns that suggest coordination, accomplices, or involvement in organized criminal activity. Users can input a known license plate, select the relevant ALPR cameras (within a few seconds and across multiple cameras), and define how often vehicles appear together. The system then automatically highlights potential vehicle cohorts, particularly useful in cases like organized retail theft, where multiple incidents may involve a known suspect vehicle. The tool can then surface a second vehicle that consistently appears nearby, such as a possible getaway car.

The second feature, Time and Speed Analysis, enables investigators to identify vehicles exhibiting outlier behavior, such as those fleeing the scene of a crime. By selecting two ALPR cameras and setting a specific time interval, users can generate a report that lists all vehicles passing through both locations along with their estimated speeds. Allowing for quick identification of anomalies, such as a vehicle traveling at 60 miles per hour in an area where most others were moving at 30. In incidents like hit-and-runs, this functionality can help pinpoint suspects within moments.

The introduction of the AutoVu ALPR Analysis Reports plugin underscores Genetec’s ongoing commitment to delivering innovative tools that enable public safety professionals to make informed decisions quickly and confidently.
