Sony Electronics Inc. has expanded its advanced LED display solutions lineup by introducing the Crystal LED CAPRI series. Designed to deliver exceptional image quality and versatility, CAPRI achieves a maximum brightness of 1,500 cd/m² with a 2.50mm LED pitch size. The displays feature high refresh rates, a wide color gamut, and anti-reflection properties. Engineered for flexibility and ease of use, CAPRI offers straightforward installation, streamlined maintenance, and compatibility with Sony's established ecosystem of virtual production technologies. The two new models, ZRD-VS25FB and ZRD-VS25FM, are built to integrate seamlessly with industry-standard Brompton and Megapixel controllers, ensuring a familiar and efficient workflow.
Developed for a wide range of applications, the CAPRI series provides a cost-effective solution for virtual production environments used in television, feature films, broadcast, and commercial production, as well as for rental and staging purposes. Maintaining the high picture quality associated with Sony, CAPRI offers an accessible entry point into professional LED wall technology at a more affordable price. The series also complements Sony's premium flagship Crystal LED VERONA, sharing the same luminance levels and controller compatibility. This allows productions to combine the two displays in a single setup, for example, using VERONA as a main wall and CAPRI on the ceiling, while maintaining a unified visual standard. The CAPRI series is expected to be available this winter.
"With the announcement of CAPRI, Sony is furthering our commitment to the creation of Spatial Content, such as virtual production, by giving a wider range of users opportunities for flexibly showcasing images in high fidelity,” said Rich Ventura, Vice President, Professional Display Solutions, Sony Electronics Inc. “We've broadened our lineup to offer more cost-conscious choices, which expand the market in support of high-quality virtual production at every level and ensure the growth of Sony's distinctive virtual production ecosystem." Delivering superior visual performance is at the core of the CAPRI series, an essential for virtual production. High refresh rates of up to 7,680Hz minimize scanline artifacts and produce smooth, natural motion, while over 98% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage ensures accurate reproduction of lifelike images. While anti-reflection technology further enhances image clarity by reducing glare from on-set lighting, supporting consistent visual results under demanding production conditions./p>
The series also prioritizes installation efficiency with the latest advancements to ensure a fast and efficient setup. Designed with a 1:1 cabinet structure ideal for temporary installations, such as virtual production stages, the CAPRI models can be quickly assembled and dismantled by using locating pins for simple alignment and a tool-free lever locking mechanism. Its modular design allows for various configurations, stacked, curved, hung, or oval, supported by a robust frame engineered to handle additional structural weight. Edge protection plates and pin slides help reduce damage and wear over time, supporting long-term durability and operational reliability.
Supporting Brompton's Tessera SX40 and Megapixel's HELIOS, the CAPRI models maintain control using familiar tools and interfaces commonly used in the industry. This alignment reduces downtime and training requirements while maximizing uptime. Maintenance is also streamlined with rear-access LED modules and built-in status indicator lights that identify specific blocks requiring service, minimizing interruptions during production.
Being well-positioned in the virtual production space, Sony provides customers with a connected ecosystem of solutions, including cinema and pan-tilt-zoom cameras, marker-free tracking systems,multi-camera live switching, remote production options, pre-visualization tools, mobile motion capture, and a virtual production tool set. When combined, these technologies enhance creative flexibility and contribute to workflow efficiency.
As part of Sony's Virtual Production Tool Set, a compilation of resources to help improve pre-production and on-set workflows. The Color Calibrator ensures the visualized colors before the shoot match the colors appearing in the dailies. At the same time, the Camera and Display Plugin combines technical information on the cameras with LED pitch to aid in predicting and addressing aliasing during pre-visualization and on-set. The upcoming Version 3.0 of the Virtual Production Tool Set, planned for fall 2025, introduces Off-axis color shift compensation capability, exclusive to select Crystal LED series, including CAPRI, VERONA, and B-series models. This feature uses camera position information to correct real-time color shifts on curved or angled installations. This capability will significantly reduce the need for post-production color correction and editing, reinforcing Sony's commitment to efficiency and image excellence across every stage of virtual production.
