Edwards, a globally recognized name in fire alarm, mass notification, and hazard warning systems, is expanding its portfolio with the launch of the Edge Fire Alarm System. Purpose-built for mid-sized environments, the Edge represents a new generation of control panel technology that brings the same level of sophistication Edwards is known for in large-scale applications to buildings that have historically had to settle for less. As facility needs grow more complex, the Edge is engineered to rise to the challenge, both today and well into the future.
On the installation side, the Edge platform was built with efficiency at its core. Its 10-amp onboard power supply, combined with Edwards' patented Voltage Boost™ technology, allows for longer wire runs throughout a building while keeping overall hardware requirements to a minimum, a significant advantage for installers working across varied architectural layouts. The base panel arrives ready to work with six fully virtual switches out of the box, and the system supports expansion to as many as 72 physical switches and LEDs. A clean, easy-to-navigate touchscreen interface ties it all together, giving operators straightforward control over zones, functionalities, and alerts without unnecessary complexity.
That touchscreen experience carries real operational benefits beyond just convenience. The 10-inch display streamlines day-to-day management by cutting the number of steps needed to adjust panel settings or pull reports by up to 45 percent. Reduced training time and clearer panel status visibility also mean faster, more effective communication during service calls, a practical advantage for facility managers and response teams alike. Jon Hughes, VP of Product Management at Edwards, emphasized that the Edge was designed to deliver pure performance at the right scale, addressing a gap in the mid-market for a solution that is both powerful and approachable.
Looking ahead, Edwards built the Edge with longevity in mind. Its backward-compatible architecture allows organizations to layer in new functionality over time through upgrades and additions, protecting their initial investment as their needs evolve. Networking features and integrated voice capabilities are already on the roadmap for future releases, signaling that the Edge platform is just getting started.
