When seconds matter, having the right tools in place can make all the difference. Singlewire Software, a leader in safety and communication solutions, has taken school safety a step further with the launch of the InformaCast Wearable Alert Badge. Built exclusively for Singlewire's InformaCast software platform, this wearable panic button gives school staff a discreet, reliable way to call for help and trigger alerts the moment a situation unfolds.
“During a school crisis, every second matters,” said Terry Swanson, president and CEO of Singlewire Software. “The InformaCast Wearable Alert Badge offers an immediate way for school staff to request help the moment issues arise, helping send instant alerts that reach the right people, so they can respond faster.”
The badge is designed around two distinct button press sequences that correspond to different levels of emergency. Three presses signal that a staff member needs assistance for situations such as classroom altercations, medical issues, or building damage. Six or more presses indicate a large-scale emergency is underway, such as an active shooter situation or a school-wide lockdown. Once activated, the badge communicates with nearby beacons to pinpoint the staff member's location with floor- and room-level accuracy. That location data is then transmitted to the school's InformaCast software, which can push intrusive audio, text, and visual alerts throughout an entire building or directly to designated response teams. School administrators can monitor the activated badge on a map in real time and even track movement if a staff member relocates to escape potential danger.
“The more visibility school leaders can have into what’s happening and who needs help, the faster and more effectively they can respond,” said David Tucker, senior vice president of product management at Singlewire Software. “With two button press options, schools will be able to get value out of this device every day, and be ready should serious emergencies occur.” (Singlewire Software News, 2025)
The six-press emergency function can also send alerts directly to local dispatchers, helping schools meet the requirements of Alyssa's Law and ensuring that outside assistance is mobilized as quickly as possible. By extending the capabilities of InformaCast software into a physical, wearable device, the InformaCast Wearable Alert Badge strengthens protection for both teachers and students while enhancing overall school safety.
